Using Inspiron 531s with Vista. After shutting down computer, the blue "on" button requires pressing 15 to 20 " times in order for the computer to start. Once starting, the button turns "yellow" then "blue" ,, which is the normal starting sequence. The computer works fine...just don't shut it down. It acts like the button is not making good contact some of the time. Comments ?

I've heard it is good to defragment your hard drive, especially for the flight simming that I use my machine for.
But my machine has a SSD for caching fed by a regular hard drive - and the normal defrag utility won't let you at this "hidden" traditional drive.
Is there a way to safely defrag my actual behind the scenes hard drive?

I have an alienware X51 R3, and the thermal control thing says everything's at 100-110 degrees....am a little worried this might be too much, and im not sure how to cool it off more. are these unsafe tempretures? if so, how do i cool it down?
I bought a new motherboard , however I do not have the DELL office , and I'm not managing to find pins to connect the motherboard manually , would help it. model GX620.
Hello, I have an Alienware aurora R4, bios updated to A11.
My hdd is failing. I planned to replace it. This morning the system crash (it's normal since the hdd is failing). Then it was long to restart. I then hold the power button to manually shut down.
But the system shut down during the bios loading. Since then, when booting, I hear a long sound after the bar fully loaded. I can't access boot option, can't access bios. I tried booting up a ssd, managed to go to the desktop. Though, my windows 10 copy did not managed to activate.
I told myself maybe the system tries to boot a saved faulty drive that is not there anymore, I tried to change boot order.When restarting, I still can't go to boot option. When I do so, it goes to a black screen with a white dash blinking. Even when trying to boot the system, it feels really, really slow, like if the success of windows 10 booting was random.
All those things are strange and worrying to me.
What's going on ?

I have not been able to find out how to install a Blu-ray Burner into this XPS 8900. I have an LG that I had in my HP that I replaced with this Dell. I can not find any documentation on how to do this on the Dell XPS 8900.
I opened the case as it was easy on my HP and this thing has a cage all around it to even access the HD.
I would also like to add in an additional HDD to the unit but I don't see anywhere how to do this.. or to take the cage apart inside.
Please help me find documents on how to do this.

I recently bought a used Optiplex 780. It is running Windows 10. The internet connection from the onboard adapter goes off and on. I bought a PCI-E network card and installed it. I install the drivers from the CD and it says cannot find network card, if deep sleep is on, plug in cable.The computer cannot detect it. Could it be a bad card or my mobo is bad? I have a dell inspiron 7459 and the first noticeable issue is with the fan noise, the CPU fan gets loud very quickly even when I'm not running heavy tasks, and the base of It seems to warm up quickly too, I tried disabling some services but it made no improvement.
I also cannot use the defrag option in Windows 10, it keeps on saying 'Optimization not available' and I have no idea how to fix it, plus it's also a solid state drive as the drive type.
The bootup is also strange too, there's usually a delay of around 10 seconds before the dell splashscreen or POST screen appears then boots normally, is there meant to be a delay before splashscreen or POST like this?
Any ideas to help with any of these 3 problems? I would appreciate it if someone helped me.

Online information on dell dimmed screen seems to be for portable devices, not desktops.

I have an EXP8700 running windows 10 64bit. Did the latest W10 upgrade and computer was working fine.
Today I tried to boot. I get one beep, a pause, then about 4 beeps per second going on FOREVER!
I tried a different keyboard but no luck I try to hit F2 F10 or F12 and cant' get out of the beeps
Suggestions?

I am thinking of reloading Win 8 from the recovery area of my hard drive then upgrade to 8.1. If I do that, will I have to update all the Microsoft Updates from earlier times or would the Win 8.1 upgrade have them all up to the current date?

My Dell Inspiron 3847 has lately responded more slowly to inserting a CD in its optical drive. ("DVD RW Drive (E:)" displays more slowly in File Explorer after inserting a CD in the optical drive, and splash screens for some CDs don't display for several minutes.)
Can someone say what the range of time normally is after inserting a CD in the optical drive?
My computer is Dell inspiron 660 desktop. Windows 8 . When I turn on , it boots and then ask for pass word. After entering pass word it looks working and trying to load windows for a while and then the screen become blank.
what should I do to recover my system
I've managed to get a user , via phone, to unlock the osd and get into the brightness/cont area.
But what buttons/keys/mice control setting brighter or dimmer? She insists there are no V or ^ buttons nor "dots" (touch buttons) along the bottom bezel.
I can't find the exact model number (IN2010NB) under monitors support. but a 2020 got me to the 10 sec unlock and the 2nd from top for b/c..

So, today I tried to install my brother's 3T seagate expansion hardrive..with no luck. I read to remove fast startup, so I restarted my computer and got a black screen telling me no bootable drive is found. I tried hitting F1 several times, to no avail, then tried the options given in F2 resetting boot setting does nothing..I have also tried F12 diagnostic and it finds nothing wrong. When I purchased this computer I wasn't given a boot CD and I really regret never making one now. Is there anything that can help me get my files back? I have a bunch of music (my own) and photos (also my own) I'd love to recover.
I bought a Studio XPS 9100 in October 2010. I don't know much about hardware so pardon my lack of knowledge or my post being all over the place but I'm writing on behalf of my husband.
We did all of the driver updates since but we didn't modify the system or add anything new to it. This was an awesome gaming computer. My husband played lots of graphic-intense games on this computer and it never gave us issues. However, for a while now, each time we open a game or watch YouTube videos, parts of the screen gets pixelated. Graphics in games get distorted and stretched. Sometimes, the monitor stops functioning and recovers (the monitor is fine though, we tested it). Did a diagnostic on the graphics card (AMD Radeon HD 5900) and the test passed. However, the diagnostic shows that our CPU seems to be overheating... it has an intel Core i7 960, overheats around 62C to 75C. We cleaned the inside several times and it didn't change anything. We even had issues a few weeks ago where the computer just shut down and kept beeping and wouldn't open anymore. We waited a while, tried a few more times and it eventually opened again. Did a motherboard diagnostic and it passed. We have no clue what to look for anymore. If I did a video card stress test and it passed with flying color, does this mean our graphics card is ok? What could this possibly mean? Where could the problem possibly be? This computer cost me an arm and a leg, so I want to avoid needing to just give up on it and go buy a new one... and there are no computer shops around to help us. Any ideas?

I own an Inspiron 24-7459 all in one pc with a 1TB HDD + 32GB SSD.
The entire PC works perfectly which is really good news but I noticed something throughout the days since I've been using this PC.
There is a 12 seconddelay before the Dell boot logo shows up and that small spinning circle thing at the bottom of it, then the rest of the PC boots fine, I even ran the diagnostics in the boot menu and said there are no errors.
Is there meant to be a 12 second delay like this or is there a problem with it? The 12 second delay has happened ever since the day I purchased this PC.
I have a Dell desktop (Express Service Code:<ADMIN NOTE: Express service code removed per privacy policy>). When I turn on my Dell desktop it is connected to the ethernet. When my computer goes to sleep, and I return to my computer, it is on wi-fi. Since my ethernet connection is faster than my wi-fi connection, I want my computer to stay on the ethernet connection after the computer has been in the sleep mode. I try to change it from wi-fi back to ethernet after the computer has been sleeping, but I cannot figure out how to do that. In order to get my ethernet connection after the computer has been sleeping I have to shut down my compuer. Is there anyway to keep the ethernet connection after the computer has been sleeping?
